The Rip Curl School of Surf is without doubt Asia’s leading surf school. Since its formation in 1998, the school has grown in size and capability. The school has taught more than 30,000 students, with each student taking an average of 3 classes. Originally known as the Cheyne Horan School of Surf, the School’s association with Rip Curl began in 2005 and is now known as the Rip Curl School of Surf. The operational entity of the school is a fully licensed Indonesian Limited Liability Company, PT Jaya Bersama, which holds a current Indonesian Tourism License for Surf Schools, making it the first and only fully licensed surf school in Indonesia.
Our staffs are all highly trained professionals. The Rip Curl School of Surf goes to great lengths in training all there staff in languages, customer service and emergency procedures. Our operational staff consistently trains in curriculum improvements, service and rescue procedures. The front office staff are able to help you with all inquires be it surf school or non - related. Our Management team is always handy to help with any questions or requests and can be called at anytime, any day.
The Rip Curl School of Surf offers a modular course of 24 lessons, from absolute beginner to mid-level surfer seeking improvement, and for the accomplished surfer, advanced level classes including an introduction to tow-in surfing.
The school guarantees success for its students at every level - from teaching a raw novice with absolutely no experience to stand on a board and surf by the end of the first lesson to taking a novice surfer from beginner waves to offshore reef within 7 lessons.
Locations
The schools Head Quarters and all administrational offices are based at Blue Ocean in Legian, and students are taught on the beach in front of the school and advanced students are taken to Canggu for advance courses. Both Locations have been selected due to there safe and relatively un-crowded environments; the Legian beach with its all-sand beach and soft breaking waves creates the perfect beginner location. Canggu has several reef breaks to choice from; all first time reef surfers start off at Old Man’s Reef, named due to its big, slow breaking waves; the reef break allows our graduating students from the beach break the opportunity to home in on the skills they have learnt with longer rides and more powerful waves. With several reef breaks to choice from, the students can progress to more challenging waves as there progress through the curriculum courses.
School Facilities
Both Rip Curl School of Surf centres offer excellent facilities including: plentiful off road car parking and shaded rest areas. Our Legian surf shop is stocked with surfing paraphernalia including: boards for sale and rent, wax, sunscreen, leg ropes, and a top range of Rip Curl men’s and women’s surf wear. Student facilities at both locations include bathrooms, changing rooms, individual student lockers, footbath, body soap, fresh towels and showers. For those just wanting to watch the school activities from the beach, deck chairs, and umbrellas are available for rent right in front of the Legian school. For watch from the beach in Canggu, then its best to bring a towel and bottled water. Fine International restaurants including Italian, Mexican, and Indonesian neighbour our Legian school location and a traditional Indonesian warung menu is available in Canggu.
Insurance & Medical Coverage
Jasindo Insurance insures all school activities including transport to and from the school; Liability insurance of US$100,000 and medical insurance to US$10,000. The Bali International Medical Centre will take of all bangs and bruises. The school has well rehearsed emergency procedures and all staffs are highly trained in First Aid, CPR, water rescue, and water extraction. We are proud of our safety record and are continually assessing situations to better ready ourselves for any emergency be it students or public in our fascinate.
Transport
Our fleet of vehicles features: Air conditioning, tape decks and short wave radio; connects the vehicles to the reception and emergency services as far away as Java. Surf racks for client boards, first aid kits and fire extinguishes in case of emergencies. Our drivers are highly trained and offer free of charge transport for students to and from their hotel or accommodation in Kuta, Seminyak, Nusa Dua and Sanur. These same vehicles are for utilized for surf tours and visiting reef breaks supplying mobile support in case of any situation.
